Alan Abraham is a graduate of Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, TX and and Yale Divinity School, New Haven, Conn., being ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 1963. Since his retirement in 2003, he and his wife, Nancy, have been residents of Amarillo, Texas.
An article in the local newspaper introduced Alan to TSHL and with encouragement from Nancy, he campaigned and was elected in 2004. Soon followed his involvement in senior homestead tax freeze campaigns across the panhandle. After leading successful petition campaigns in Amarillo, Potter and Randall Counties, and the Amarillo College District, he considered himself something of an expert and was able to assist other citizen groups earn homestead tax freeze concessions in seven additional taxing entities in the Panhandle.
Alan has served as Vice-Chair, TSHL Human Services Committee. He was founding Chair of the TSHL Ethics Review Panel and wrote the amendment to the Bylaws to establish rules and regulations relating to Ethics and the TSHL Code of Behavior.
Alan is actively involved in his community as a participating member of the Senior Ambassadors Coalition of Amarillo, which is a group of professionals involved in senior care, and the Texas Kincare Taskforce, which resources grandparents raising grandchildren. He is a member of the Panhandle Area Agency on Aging Advisory Board, having served a term as its Chair, and he belongs to the state and local League of Women Voters to further augment his work in legislative advocacy for senior citizens in Texas.
